Total War: Shogun 2 is a strategy video game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. The game is the sequel to the first game of the Total War series and the seventh overall installment in the franchise. TW: S2 takes place during the feudal Japan period and gives the player a chance to lead one of several warring clans to control the divided country. Gameplay

Total War: Shogun 2's gameplay follows similar mechanics as the previous installments of the series, incorporating turn-based strategy and real-time tactics. The player chooses between several playable factions - this time representing the rival clans of feudal Japan. Each clan has different traits that the player can use to their advantage - for example, the Oda clan possesses excellent infantry, while the Shimazu clan relies on the strength and loyalty of the samurai. 

Another gameplay mechanic carried over from the previous installments of the series is religion. While not as important to the overall success in the campaign, the player mustn't neglect the influence of foreign religions, especially Christianity. Exposing the player's clan to the power of God's word might cause a rift within the province, still following the beliefs of their forefathers.

The game can be played both in single and multiplayer, with the participants controlling the clan members during the campaign or fighting against each other in battle mode.

Story Summary

Medieval Japan is an arena of great unrest. The country is divided between powerful clans, each with their own vision of unifying the land under their banner. As the leader of such a clan, you must lead your people to victory over the others. Train your warriors in the ancient art of battle and fortify your strongholds against the enemy. Win the favor of your subjects but beware - one wrong step may lead to a bloody revolt. 

Reception

Total War: Shogun 2 was met with highly positive critical reception. At the time of release, it was considered the best installment in the franchise. Several members of the development team were nominated and won the British Academy Video Game Awards for the Best Strategy Game
