Gameplay
Take direct, handsâon control of a massive spiderâturret's mechanisms, from hauling elevation wheels and calculating firing solutions to loading specialized shells. Orders arrive through a teleprinter along with rough coordinates from frontline spotters, and it's up to you to plot enemy positions on the tactical map, work out ranges and bearings, choose the right powder charges and ammunition type, and ram the shells home before firing the twin 800mm cannons. You will process intelligence from teleprinters and aerial photos, plan strikes across diverse regions, and manage the turret's slow but powerful rotation to engage procedurally generated objectives across multiple challenge modes.
Story
The campaign unfolds in an alternateâhistory Spain during the late 1920s, on the brink of civil war, where the monarchy still holds power while a spreading republican uprising threatens to tear the country apart. As the Operator of the IRON NEST, you receive orders from a remote High Command and desperate calls from the frontline, navigating a conflict where your actions have permanent and moral weight. The setting draws heavily on the aesthetics and atmosphere of both World War I and World War II, filtered through a distinct dieselpunk lens.
Graphics
IRON NEST presents a grimy, industrial dieselpunk aesthetic, with the player confined to a cramped officeâlike interior of the walking turret, surrounded by levers, dials, teleprinters, and display boards rather than open battlefield views. The intense audio feedback, from grinding hydraulics to the deafening blast of the twin cannons, reinforces the crushing scale and danger of operating a 5,000âton war machine.
