Story

Outward is unique among other RPGs because it doesn't rely on quests and elaborate stories. They're in the game but serve as vague guidance rather than the vocal point. You start your adventure as a shipwreck in the land of Aurai, a place full of dangerous monsters, vast dungeons and caverns, and magical mysteries to uncover. So go, explore and live through your own unique and unrepeatable adventures! But remember that your actions also have consequences!

Gameplay

Outward is a survival RPG so besides the usual character progression and acquiring new and better gear you'll also have to worry about your own needs such as sleep, hunger and thirst. To survive in the dangerous world of Auri you'll have to brave its dangers. Character progression is tied to exploration. You don't gain experience through usual ways, you need to find teachers to learn new abilities. And that means venturing into the world!

One of the coolest mechanics in Outward is definitely the magic system. To even be able to cast spells you need to earn this right by visiting a very dangerous unsettling place. Then toy can learn new spells and combine them in interesting and often spectacular combos that will make you feel truly powerful. Especially since you have to earn it and sacrifice something along the way.
