Merchant of the Skies puts you in the shoes of the captain of a flying merchant ship. The setting is a bit futuristic with some fantasy elements. The aim is to travel through the fictional world, consisting of flying islands, and trade various goods and materials with the towns we encounter during our journey.

The game features 10 different airships which can be acquired from Shipwrights. Starting from a regular boat, we can make money on our business and soon become a true power broker in terms of merchandise.

Establish your own trade company

Gather resources from the uninhabitated islands in order to sell them for the best price possible. World resources, such as wood, stone, iron, sand, and many other can be gathered either bought in one of the towns’ Trade Post, or gathered manually, sometimes with the use of the appropriate tools (for example, you will need an axe to cut down trees to gather wood).

Some resources can be made into more profitable and useful items, although it will require you to establish your own “base” (or a company if you prefer) and build certain facilities to start the production. For example, wood can be made into lumber in the Sawmill and sand into glass in the Forge. Those items can be either used to expand your company or sold with a greater profit.

Fulfill the tasks

Besides the trading part, the game also features quests as it includes some RPG-like elements. While traveling the game world we can sometimes encounter “quest givers” who can offer us special assignments for the fulfilling of which we can get rewarded. We can get such tasks from the Trade Guilds as well as from the aforementioned Shipwrights and some Houses, too.

Apart from the gold, what we get from the completed quests are also the so-called Guild Tickets. They can be used, for example, to upgrade our ship by purchasing various modules, such as the Scrap Magnet or the Lightning Catcher.

Skills

Apart from establishing our own trade company, upgrading our ships and completing quests, the game also features the skills system. Various skills and perks provide gameplay-wise bonuses, such as increased travel speed or a reduced income tax at the Trade Posts. We buy and upgrade our skills with the points we get after accumulating enough experience.
