EA adds glass walls to The Sims 4, triggering creative chaos among players.
Just when you thought your house builds couldn’t get weirder, Maxis and EA dropped a free update for The Sims 4 that’s turning everyday architecture into an observational experiment.
Sims 4 Glass Walls Update
Glass walls and glass roofs are finally here. You’ll find them tucked under the ‘Misc’ section of Wall Patterns in Build Mode, ready to shatter the illusion of privacy for good.
EA might have imagined serene greenhouses or stylish open spaces. The community, of course, had other ideas. Within hours, players were already building things like glass prisons and “observation rooms.” It’s official: your Sims no longer have anywhere to hide.
Sims Rooftop Plants and a Lot Less Menu Pain
This update — version 1.116.202.1030 on PC and 2.14 on consoles — doesn’t stop at glass. You can now plant foliage on rooftops. It’s under ‘Roof Sculptures,‘ and the game highlights which plants will actually work with your roof’s shape. Bonus: you can preview roof compatibility straight from the ‘Outdoor Plants’ section. The only catch? Your Sims still haven’t figured out ladders, so good luck watering those begonias.

One of the most welcome changes is inventory cleanup. If you’ve ever spent 10 minutes scrolling through clutter just to find a half-eaten sandwich, you’ll love this: the new system has better sorting and flags for newly added items. Spoiled food now glows red and auto-sorts into a separate “spoiled stack.” No more guessing what’s still edible. Unless that’s part of your gameplay style, no judgment, then.
There’s more: the Notebook now has a cleaner layout with categories that actually make sense. You can flick through discoveries with new icons, badges, and a proper back button. Console players also get smoother scrolling with the right stick — finally.
The Household Collections page got a facelift too. It now shows collection icons, progress bars, and animations when you pick up something new. Sorting is way better: name, rarity, what you’re missing, what’s complete, it’s all here now and it works. Long story short: the menus no longer feel like a forgotten expansion pack from 2015.
Reddit Builds, Broken Morals, and What’s Coming Next
Naturally, chaos came fast. Reddit already has threads full of “glass cage” builds, gallery uploads with ominous names, and Sims trapped in rooms inspired by horror flicks. Sure, people used to fake this stuff with creative window placement. But now it’s official, and EA basically handed players a way to run their own social experiments without the workarounds.
Finally A-Frame houses are possible!

This update lines up with The Sims 4’s summer roadmap and sets the stage for the July 10 release of the “Enchanted by Nature” expansion, the one with fairy Sims. Think of this patch as groundwork: fixing the basics and handing players tools to play god more efficiently before the sparkly chaos begins.
Sims Patch July 2025 Sparks Creativity
If you’ve been around the Sims franchise long enough, this all feels right on schedule. Every time Maxis gives players a new feature, they find a way to use it for something deeply unhinged. That’s kind of the point. From pool-stair traps to firework-filled basements, the game’s always been less about peaceful suburban life and more about messing with tiny people in creative ways.
Now we’ve got glass walls. What do you do with them? That’s between you, your Sim, and maybe Reddit.
