Gameplay

ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE puts you directly into the cockpit of advanced fighter jets and gives you full freedom to maneuver through large three-dimensional battlefields. Close the distance on enemy aircraft, evade incoming missiles with chaff and flares, and attack using machine guns, missiles, and specialized weapons. Preparation is also important: before a sortie, you can choose an aircraft suited to the mission, select special weapons, and combine upgrade parts to create a configuration that matches your preferred playstyle, with missions ranging from traditional dogfights and ground attacks to encounters with enormous superweapons, while selected battles also allow you to command your squadron and adjust its behavior to the situation. Beyond the campaign, ACE COMBAT ONLINE provides its own multiplayer progression, letting players meet at an online air base, expand their collection of aircraft, and take part in Co-Op Assault, Co-Op Warfare, and limited-time PvP events with pilots from around the world.

Story

The story takes place in Strangereal in 2029. The Federation of Central Usea has been devastated by an invasion from the Republic of Sotoa, leaving much of the country occupied and its armed forces scattered. After being rescued by the aging aircraft carrier Endurance, the player takes on the name "Wings of Theve," a legendary ace associated with the fallen FCU capital. Together with three squadmates, you return to the battlefield and fight to reclaim your homeland while carrying the weight of a legend originally created to give people hope, with the campaign combining combat missions with first-person scenes and cinematic sequences that explore life away from the cockpit, relationships within the squadron, and the pressures of fighting a desperate war.
