Total War: THREE KINGDOMS - Eight Princes

Total War: THREE KINGDOMS is a video game that combines turn-based strategy with real-time battles. It was developed by Creative Assembly and published in 2019 by Sega. Eight Princes expansion pack revolves around a new campaign taking place 100 years after the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period. It adds 8 new playable princes to the game, each with his own playstyle and unique units under his command.

Story

The game takes place during the period called the War of the Eight Princes, which was a historical series of civil wars among the leaders of the Chinese Jin dynasty. You will play the role of one of the Jin princes in order to conquer the others and unite the people under your banner.

Gameplay

The expansion uses mostly the same mechanics as the base game but includes several new additions. One of the notable ones is the introduction of virtue alignments – Mind, Spirit, Might, and Wealth. These attributes can be increased by performing certain actions, like sparing the enemy general. As a result, they will reward you with some powerful passive bonuses, like an increased research rate.

The expansion also features new warlords to choose from, each with his own unique playstyle, units, and structures, creating a much more varied gameplay experience.

Reception

The expansion pack received favorable reviews. Critics praised the amount of content included in the Eight Princes, notably new playable warlords and gameplay mechanics. They described the 8 Princes expansion as feeling novel enough for a new and refreshing playthrough, while keeping the basics unchanged, which decreases the learning curve for those already familiar with the base game.
