The Almost Gone is a minimalist point and click adventure game created in 2020 by Happy Volcano and published by Playdigious. It is an indie game in which the player takes part in an adventure told in a highly aesthetic form of isometric projection.

Story

Play the role of a young girl who, after her death, was suspended between the world of the living and the dead. In solitude, solve puzzles and view bits of lost memories to piece together hidden meanings and clues. Return to well-known places: the treehouse, your own room or the tent in the forest. Discover, explore, unlock and connect facts, it's almost game time!

The Almost Gone Gameplay

The single player gameplay will guide you through several chapters of a mysterious story that you need to discover. It is possible by returning to places close to the heart of the deceased protagonist, presented in the form of three-dimensional dioramas. All of these locations can be rotated and you can freely interact with the elements they contain to learn more details that might not have been so obvious before. Some of them include puzzles, the solution of which will lead you to explore another fragment of your own story and understand the situation in which you found yourself.

The setting of the game is very beautiful and at the same time extremely minimalistic, which not only gives you the pleasure of exploring the enchanting world of The Almost Gone but also allows you to focus on important details. While the game may not seem like it at first glance, the story is surprisingly mature and covers several difficult topics, such as mental health problems or alcoholism.

Reception

The game won plenty of awards, especially in the category of unconventional indie video games, as a title that focuses on unusual solutions and aesthetics. On the Steam platform, it also collected a lot of positive opinions, although there were also reviews of not fully satisfied players who stated that the gameplay can be monotonous.
