“FATAL FRAME / PROJECT ZERO: Maiden of Black Water” is yet another survival horror game developed by Koei Tecmo in the Fatal Frame series. It was originally created for the Wii U but ever since October 2021, it is also possible to enjoy it on Windows and new generations of consoles. The Japanese horror has received good reviews and is praised for its intriguing story, eerie atmosphere, and outstanding design.

The rich history of Hikami Mountain

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is set on Hikami Mountain, a fictional location infamous for a high rate of suicides, weird sightings, and questionable happenings. The mountain used to be a crossing between the worlds of the living and the dead. The residents of Hikami Mountain were shrine maidens who would guide lost souls into the peaceful abyss. Now and then, the maidens would lose their powers and be sacrificed to the malevolent Black Waters as an Eternal Flower.

The legends are still alive

The engaging story is happening through the eyes of three different protagonists: Yuri Kozukata, a descendant from the Hikami shrine maidens who can bring people back from the shadow world, Ren Hojo, a friend of Yuri's who collects material for his new book, and Miu Hinasaki, the daughter of Miku Hinasaki, a recurrent Fatal Frame protagonist. Join them to learn the truth about their past, heritage, and legacy. On top of that, you have the power to influence the conclusion of this addictive story!

Gameplay

The story follows our three protagonists during their expeditions. It is divided into different missions, during which you will play as every one of them. See the ghosts of the past and defeat them using challenging mechanics. Will the memory of Hikami Mountain spirits be forgotten, or will they lead you deeper and deeper into the dark history?
