Killer Bean

Gameplay

Killer Bean combines shooter action with roguelike replayability. Players control Killer Bean in fast combat encounters, using firearms, movement, and randomized weapon skills to survive against groups of enemies. The game can be played from both first-person and third-person perspectives, giving players flexibility in how they approach combat.

Each campaign takes place on procedurally generated islands, so the world, missions, enemy encounters, and overall flow can change between runs. Players can expect open-world exploration, action-heavy missions, faction battles, boss fights, vehicles, aircraft, mechs, and physics-based chaos.

Story

Killer Bean was once connected to the Shadow Agency, but after discovering its dangerous plans, he becomes a rogue assassin determined to destroy it. His mission puts him against powerful enemies, criminal factions, and Shadow Beans who are trained to stop him.

The story is built around roguelike structure, meaning each campaign can create different situations, enemies, and mission paths. This gives the game a flexible narrative style where every new run can feel different from the previous one.

Graphics

Killer Bean uses a stylized action-comedy theme based on anthropomorphic coffee bean characters. Its visual identity mixes over-the-top shooter action with open-world islands, unusual factions, vehicles, aircraft, mechs, wildlife, and ragdoll physics. The result is a playful but explosive style that fits the game’s humorous assassin premise.

My relationship with Killer Bean started in 2008, watching the original short on a school computer while pretending to do a geography project. Sixteen years later I'm sitting here playing a whole game about that same little guy, and something about it genuinely moved me in a way I cannot fully explain to another adult. The game nails the energy of the source material — absurd, self-serious, completely committed to the bit.
