Lista Gier Anime
Attack on Titan
The vastly popular anime Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin lived to receive a really interesting, well-made video game adaptation delivered by the creators of the Dynasty Warriors series (and its spin-offs), but featuring gameplay very different from the muso classics. Especially the second game is a great fun. There are plenty of disturbingly well-made titans to kill, you get to design your own character using a fairly robust creator tools which let you nail your appearance. You get to soar through the streets using your complex omni-directional mobility gear, try to hack at the titans’ necks, and take part in a story you only got to experience passively in the anime or the manga.
Code Vein
If you’re a fan of Soulslike games following in the footsteps of the titles made by FromSoftware, you should take a look at Code Vein. Set in a world left in shambles by the supernatural, global destruction, populated by ravenous monsters and a society of revenant fighters resisting their thirst for blood. Combat is methodical, but benefits from a pleasantly flexible system of classes and abilities to let you discover useful synergies and spectacular special attacks giving you precious Ichor to spend on powerful Gifts. All of that is presented using an unmistakably shōnen aesthetic. And you get to design your own Revenant here too.
Guilty Gear Xrd
The Guilty Gear series is now over twenty years old, and has delivered plenty of excellent, complex fighting games. Every entry delivers a new dose of characteristic art style, creative character designs, odd storyline, and fantastic heavy rock soundtrack. Guilty Gear Xrd brought the series into the third dimension without sacrificing the characteristic 2D appearance or tight, technical, lighting-fast gameplay. Add to that an over-the-top story, detailed lore codex, and great follow-up and you get an outstanding anime-like fighting game.
Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry 5 might just be the most perfect distillation of the long-running series of over-the-top hack’n’slash featuring white-haired demon-slayer Dante, and the extended cast of his friends, foes, and family. In DMC5 you get to control him, a younger warrior Nero, and a mysterious summoner V as they hack and slash their way towards preventing a powerful demon Urizen from completing his plan. It’s, there’s virtually no skill ceiling to limit your combos, and the story is very engaging and dramatic, even if you’re not very familiar with the characters. And it’s all done with undeniable style and flair.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
A remake of one of the most beloved jRPG games in history, Final Fantasy VII Remake makes good on the promises, and delivers an outstanding new version of the first act of the game’s story. There’s a new combat system and obviously more impressive graphics, but the soul of the story remains intact. There are huge swords, spiky haircuts, sombre intensity of the main hero, over-the-top combat maneouvres, and kick-ass music. It doesn’t have the 2D aesthetic, but if your favourite shōnen anime was turned into a high-definition 3D models, it would likely look like the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
