    Best Old FPS Games

First-person shooter games are quite an effective way to relieve stress – you just grab your favorite weapon and go for a mindless rampage, slaughtering tons of aliens, enemy soldiers, or something entirely different. What’s interesting is the fact that, when it comes to gameplay, old games can be as good if not better than modern games, which is great news if you don’t own an end-game PC. As the saying goes, sometimes old is gold, so why don’t you relive the past in one of the iconic first-person shooter games that influenced entire generations of games that were developed and released later?

If you’re looking for the most iconic FPS game out there, you can’t go wrong with Doom – a rather frightening game, where you will be tasked with defeating demonic hordes with the use of powerful sci-fi weaponry, including the well-known BFG 9000. Often cited as the best game ever made, Doom will surely bring you some kick of nostalgia. It’s also worth noting that the Doom series spawned some really cool modern games in recent years as well – if you liked the classic experience, you will also fall in love with the most recent entries in the franchise, as they managed to retain the spirit of the original while drastically improving the visuals and adding a lot of features that are meant to increase the player’s quality of life.

Half-Life is also worth mentioning when speaking of old classic FPS games – for some people it may be even above Doom, and that’s completely fine and understandable, as HF is also a title that helped to shape the entire FPS industry. An addictive 3D shooter game with working physics was not something we were able to see too often back then, so it’s only natural that it became wildly popular. Half-Life was also a common choice for the modding community to create mods for, which later gave birth to other popular games like Counter-Strike.

If you were making an old shooting games list, Quake should easily be able to make its way onto it. Heavily inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft and gothic fiction, the game will throw you into various dark maze-like levels filled with dangerous monsters. You’re not defenseless, though, so there’s no reason to be afraid of starting a new adventure in this hostile environment.

There are, of course, more titles that are worth playing. Solid old shooter games that deserve a mention include Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Far Cry 2, Wolfenstein 3D, and System Shock 2, to name just a few examples. The list doesn’t end here, so feel free to explore the library of available games to find more.
