The Settlers is a real-time strategy game developed by Blue Byte and published by Ubisoft. The game is the ninth installment in the cult-classic series. Much like its predecessors, The Settlers focuses on building and managing the player's settlement, developing it into a thriving metropolis. The game's plot sees the settlers on the run from their homeland, stricken by a cataclysmic earthquake. As they venture into a new land that could be their new home, they will face challenge after challenge and become entangled in a mystery that could change the tribe forever. The initial impression of the New Settlers game was very positive, with the critics anticipating another successful installment of the cult-classic series.

As with the previous renditions, the new Settlers focuses on the player building and managing the settlement for a newly homeless tribe. Initially, the player's operations are limited to a one hut and essential resources. But as the game progresses, more and more options are unlocked. Various challenges await the player along the way, including enemy tribes trying to take over the land. The game features typical RTS combat mechanics where the player's forces take on the enemy in massive battles. Winning battles rewards the player victory points, collecting which is one of the ways to win the game. Others include gaining more glory than the other nations, or spreading the players influence or religion across the continent.

A multiplayer adventure

The Settlers features a multiplayer mode in which the player can take on others in various match types. One of them is Skirmish, in which the player's army can take on the forces of another player in single combat with predetermined rules.

The new installment of the Settlers series is a true wonder to behold. Thanks to Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, the details of the world are rendered in incredible detail. The player can witness thousands of virtual citizens working in the city, observing every little bit of their day to day activities. The world of The Settlers features a variety of beautiful sceneries, form lush woods to parched prairies. The world changes a the player expands their settlement, and each new detail is easily noticeable thanks to the excellent graphics engine.

Much like previous installments of the Settlers series, the newest game was met with positive initial reactions. The critics familiar with Ubisoft's achievements in restoring the series to its former glory with 2010 The Settlers VII: Path to a Kingdom, impatiently wait for more information this upcoming title.
