Gameplay

Obsidian Mirror revolutionizes Age of Mythology: Retold with deep strategic layers inspired by Aztec mythology. Take control of three distinct Major Gods—Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli—each offering unique playstyles, from cultural advancement to brutal sacrifice. Nine Minor Gods further expand your options with specialized powers and myth units. New mechanics like Fear and Illusion allow for deceptive tactics, while the Tonalli system rewards aggressive play by converting fallen warriors into divine Favor. Villagers can even sacrifice themselves to fuel your gods' power, adding a high-risk, high-reward dynamic to every battle.

Story

The expansion's 12-mission campaign follows the cataclysmic fallout of a divine feud between Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca, which destroys the utopian city of Aztlan. As Huitzilopochtli leads his people to forge a new empire, Tezcatlipoca escapes through his Obsidian Mirror, seeking allies across continents to reclaim his dominance. The story weaves betrayal, mythic conflict, and survival, with the fate of the Aztec civilization hanging in the balance.
