Stellaris is a space-based grand strategy simulation that focuses on exploration, diplomacy, and warfare in a procedurally generated universe. The First Contact Story Pack is a DLC that introduces new origins and mechanics for players to experience the first encounters of their civilizations with extraterrestrial beings, some of whom may not arrive peacefully.

New Origins

The First Contact DLC adds three new origins to the game. "Broken Shackles" follows a group of enslaved beings who take control of an alien ship and form a diverse society. "Payback" involves a civilization that was attacked by an advanced alien race, but managed to repel the invasion and gain access to their technology. "Fear of the Dark" deals with a civilization that is hesitant to explore the unknown depths of space due to a past incident and its growing need for resources.

Interaction with Pre-FTL Civilizations

Stellaris First Contact introduces new options for interacting with pre-FTL civilizations, depending on their technological development and awareness of your presence. The player's role in the genesis of the next galactic community member can result in joy or panic, depending on their choices.

Cloaking Technology

The First Contact Story Pack also adds cloaking technology, allowing players to equip their ships with devices to conduct research covertly or surprise enemies. This technology can be used in observation posts to secretly observe neighbours in their pre-FTL stage. Players should develop their sensors and intelligence technologies, as they never know which of their neighbours might be lurking in the shadows.
