This War of Mine is a strategy game where you are responsible for a group of civilians in an occupied city of Pogoren. The game was published by 11 bit Studios in 2014 and has received mostly positive reviews ever since. This survival-themed game is praised for immersive wartime atmosphere and an original story influencing not only you but also the entire city.

Heartbreaking story

Put yourself in the shoes of civilians thrown into the middle of military operations. Make difficult decisions and try to make the best use of materials and tools you have gathered. It will be difficult to find yourself in such brutal reality due to the fact that even the characters whose lives depend on you have neither military background nor survival experience.

Inspiration

The depicted story is based on the Balkans Conflict of 1994, particularly the Siege of Sarajevo, which was the longest city siege since World War II, and depicts awful living conditions and wartime horrors that residents had to face.

Gameplay

Take care of your people

Maintain your characters' level of health, hunger, and mood. Keep the spirits high and try to stay positive during those difficult times. During daytime, you will remain inside so as not to be assassinated by hidden snipers. Craft items, gather materials and upgrade your shelter. You need to survive till the end of this war!

Affect your survivors

Start off with one to four people whose fates are in your hands. Each decision can alter the endings of your civilians. Bear in mind that each survivor has different traits and varying stats that affect various factors like combat. Those traits may be useful only in some types of situations, so decide in such a way that you get the most out of them.

Nighttime

At nighttime, you will finally have the possibility to go out and scavenge nearby areas for valuable resources. You will need them in order to survive the day. Encounter other civilians while searching for goods and decide whether you help them or not.
