If you feel a distinct lack of awesome, old-school action RPGs in your life or other games in the genre are not up to your standards, check out Grim Dawn (PC). Created by genre veterans who created classic Titan Quest, funded well above its goal on Kickstarter, and a survivor of Early Access. Grim Dawn's development and early release are a testament to the strength of this game.Set in an appropriately grim world of Cairn, Grim Dawn takes a serious tone and translates it into explosive, visually compelling intense combat against vast numbers of enemies.
Grim setting, grisly details
Cairn, the world on which all of the mess takes place, is in a bad place these days. Two celestial nations wage war across its face in an effort to gain the upper hand on the other. Humans are seen as a resource to harvest or destroy, and so the last remnants of humanity cower in the shadows as the reality itself tears itself apart. And then there’s you: a convict freshly freed from possession by a spirit and preventative execution. Are you going to be the tipping point humanity needs to survive? Well, there isn't anybody else willing to try.
(In)Surmountable odds
Pushing back the onslaught of celestial beings beyond moral ken is no easy task. You are but one, and they come in dozens at once. Grim Dawn gameplay takes the best lessons from its glorious predecessors, and throws at you just enough enemies to make you drown in their bodies, but not enough to completely remove a chance of survival if you play your cards right.Thankfully you have the power and Mastery to fight back.

Six Masteries are just the beginning
You can define the way you're the deadliest sentient around with six core Masteries. Soldier, Demolitionist, Nightblade, Occultist, Shaman, and Arcanist have their own unique skill trees, talents and more, but that's just a beginning. Grim Dawn gameplay mechanics allow you to pick a second class, expanding your abilities explosively. Hybrid classes like Commando, Spellbreaker or Druid are your way of reaching for power few are able to wield.
Visceral combat
Literally. Grim Dawn combat goes from clean grass to a scene full of viscera and blood in a matter of seconds. As your power grows, so do the explosive properties of your enemies, who get tossed around like rag dolls and ripped apart like tissue paper. Can you keep up dishing out flame and murder as your enemies' numbers grow?Grim Dawn is a game where grisly deaths are dished fairly between careless players and monster not clever enough to run.
Co-op
If you feel that stopping an ongoing apocalypse is a task better tackled by a group, Grim Dawn has your back. Team up with up to three friends and make the Chthonians and Aetherials pay for nearly destroying humanity. Unleash a barrage of death against monstrous hordes. Who could stand in the way of four determined heroes?

Farthest Frontier is a city builder simulator set in the medieval era. The game offers a typical 4x experience where you build your power from scratch and expand to get access to new land and resources.
Farthest Frontier offers impressively complex mechanics revolving around acquiring resources, growing food and protecting your town from various dangers, including forces of nature and deadly diseases. One of the nicest features in Farthest Frontier is the option to choose the difficulty setting depending on the experience each player wants to have, whether it is hardcore and intense or more relaxing and focused on slow and calm expansion. It is a fantastic choice for every strategy and city-building fan!

Explore and expand
As you build your own settlement on the edge of the known world, you must take into consideration several factors. Your people need food, and so you need to plan what kinds of crops you want to grow. Sounds simple, but here's where the game's complexity and depth start to shine.
Each crop has unique growing characteristics, and you'll need to configure crop rotations to maintain soil fertility. This will allow you to maintain soil fertility and avoid diseases. You will also need to care for the soil, removing weeds and stones, to further increase its fertility, which will lead to a better harvest and a happier, healthier population.
Your access to various resources is dependent on the map you'll find yourself in. In Farthest Frontier maps are procedurally generated and thus each game is different and offers a unique set of challenges. You'll have to determine what resources you can harvest and then use them to expand your village and advance or trade them for other materials you might need.
In Farthest Frontier you can find 14 different raw materials and grow 17 types of food which you can process and produce 32 crafted items and materials. Combined with over 50 types of buildings you can build leads to a complex and multi-levelled economy you'll have to manage to achieve prosperity!
Defend and protect
The gameplay in Farthest Frontier is extremely entertaining and engaging. Especially since you can just it to your preferred play style. You can choose a difficulty setting that will determine what you'll be focusing on during your game.
You can have an extremely brutal experience, where you'll have to deal with many real diseases such as cholera or dysentery by making sure your villagers have access to a source of clean water. On top of that, you'll have to defend your supplies and crops from wild animals and even build palisades and barracks to fend off raider attacks. This allows you to truly test your managing-under-pressure skills.
Or you can customize the difficulty and turn those features off and focus on management, expansion, and trade. It's your choice and your experience!
