Need for Speed: Most Wanted is a racing video game for PC, developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts. NFS: MW is a remake of the original game, released in 2005. The game features an open-world environment, where players compete in three types of races. The game also features cops, who appear in certain race scenarios, and the most wanted list of 10 racers, however this time it does not feature a related storyline.
The gameplay features of NFS Most Wanted take a lot from the original title. However, the remake introduces several changes. Instead of a story mode where player participated in different events, new Most Wanted lets player to choose their car and race in three types of races. Sprint Race has player racing from one point of the city to another, Circuit Race, where the player does two or three laps on a predetermined track and Speed runs, where the player’s job is to maintain the highest speed possible. There are also Ambush races, with the player starting surrounded by the police and tasked with evading the pursuit as quickly as they can. The Blacklist of racers from the original Most Wanted returns, but there is no plot significance to it.
Need for Speed Most Wanted takes the racing action to Fairhaven. The city is comprised of several districts, which include the Beltway looping around the Downtown area, industrial Callahan and Ripley’s Point, Interstate 92 and abandoned Hodges Airfield. In the new Most Wanted, the player gets behind the wheel of over 60 vehicles, with different classes and traits. The player can modify the performance of their car with special modifications, which can be applied to the vehicles body, chassis, nitrous, transmission, and tires. The cars available in the game include the most popular brands, like Audi, Bentley, Dodge, Bugatti, Chevrolet, Ford, Pagani, and others.
Like the 2005’s original, Most Wanted features chases with cops, called Pursuit mode. In this mode, the player has to evade capture after committing an offense in view of the police car. The pursuit comes in different intensity levels, dubbed the “Heat”. The longer and more dangerous the chase, the bigger the heat. Initially, the police will go after the player with the most basic Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars. As the heat increases, law enforcement will throw more and more measures to stop the player, including faster cars and heavy roadblocks. To end pursuit, the player must escape the police visibility zone marked on the minimap or immobilize the pursuing units.
Need for Speed Most Wanted features a multiplayer mode, where players compete online by completing SpeedLists, a series of five racing events. Winning races and performing certain actions during them rewards the player with SpeedPoints. The game also includes the Autolog network suite, which connects the players online.
