Onimusha: Way of the Sword (PC) - Steam Key - EUROPE

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an upcoming action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom, marking the first new mainline entry in the Onimusha series in over two decades. Set in Edo-era Kyoto twisted by a supernatural force known as Malice, the game follows legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as he wields the Oni Gauntlet to battle demonic Genma. It centers on deliberate, blade-on-blade swordplay built around parries, deflects, and Oni-powered abilities.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is scheduled to release on September 4, 2026, after Capcom moved the launch forward from its originally announced September 25, 2026 date. As with any pre-release title, timing can still shift, so it is worth checking official Capcom channels for the latest confirmation before finalizing purchase plans.

The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. PS5 versions are expected to include PS5 Pro enhancements, and the Xbox release supports Xbox Play Anywhere, letting eligible purchases carry over between Xbox console and PC.

The protagonist is Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary Japanese swordsman whose in-game likeness draws inspiration from actor Toshiro Mifune. Musashi gains the power of the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical artifact that lets him battle the Genma, monstrous beings overrunning Kyoto during the early Edo period.

Not in the traditional sense. While it shares some stylistic ground with Soulslike titles, previews describe Onimusha: Way of the Sword as its own take on sword-based action, built around parries, deflects, and the Issen counter rather than the stamina-and-checkpoint loops typical of Soulslikes. Capcom has positioned it as an accessible, story-driven swordplay game rather than a punishing Soulslike.

Three digital editions are planned: Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe. All three are currently scheduled for the same launch date, and none offer paid early access, so every edition unlocks the game at the same time.

The Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with a Deluxe Kit containing extra charms and cosmetic sword appearances that let players adjust Musashi's abilities and look. Exact contents may still be adjusted before launch, so it is worth confirming the final item list on the platform storefront before buying.

The Premium Deluxe Edition adds a larger Premium Deluxe Kit on top of everything in the Deluxe Edition, including additional charms, sword appearances, alternate outfits for supporting characters, an Oni Gauntlet variant, and an in-game mini digital soundtrack. It is aimed mainly at cosmetic collectors rather than players seeking extra story content.

Yes. Capcom released a free demo covering roughly the first 30 minutes of the story, including a boss encounter against rival swordsman Sasaki Ganryu. Progress from the demo does not carry over to the full game, but players who complete it can unlock a bonus in-game charm at launch.

Standard pre-orders include the Charm: Lion Dog and the Sword Appearance: Sealed Curse. Deluxe and Premium Deluxe pre-orders add the Charm: White Monkey and the Sword Appearance: White Lion on top of those. Because the release date moved earlier, Capcom has described these as Early Adopter Bonuses, meaning they may stay available for a limited time after launch rather than disappearing at release.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a single-player game with no multiplayer modes announced. The experience is built around a linear, story-driven campaign following Musashi's journey through a Malice-corrupted Kyoto.

The game is built on Capcom's RE Engine, the same technology used across recent Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Dragon's Dogma titles. This generally points toward sharp visuals and the kind of consistent performance the engine has delivered in Capcom's other recent releases, though official system requirements are best checked closer to launch.
