Spintires: MudRunner is an off-roading simulation video game developed by Saber Interactive and published in October 2017 by Focus Home Interactive. It is an upgraded continuation of the 2014 Spintires. The game lets you drive multiple all-terrain vehicles on the muddy terrain as you try to complete given objectives and it accurately simulates the physics of both the driven trucks and the terrain itself.

Story

MudRunnerhas no story. Instead, it allows you to drive off-road trucks on the muddy terrain to discover new areas and complete objectives.

Gameplay and Game Modes

The game gives you the possibility to drive 19 different vehicles based on real Soviet machines and to deliver logs between points. It’s easier said than done, as you will find yourself in the middle of the harsh and muddy wilderness full of unpaved roads, wet soil, and rivers, having only the map and compass to aid you in the task. Driving through the terrain deforms it realistically, leaving deep trails and making it even harder to pass in the future. Besides the environment, you will also need to pay attention to the fuel, as your fuel-hungry vehicles drain it at an alarming rate.

To make exploring the sandbox environment easier, you will be able to use certain tools, such as the winch, that can be used to get out of tricky situations and unstuck your truck. The game can be played in single-player, but it also offers a multiplayer co-op mode, where up to 4 players can play together and help each other out in case one gets stuck in the mud, for example. The title supports the Steam Workshop, adding an easy way to mod the game any way you want.

Reception

Spintires: MudRunner for PC received positive reviews and is considered a solid position to try for any off-road fan. Reviewers praised high realism of the implemented physics and appreciated the sandbox nature of the title. Multiplayer mode’s presence was also noted as a way to enjoy the title while cooperating with friends.
