SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is a platforming video game developed by Purple Lamp Studios and published by THQ Nordic. It is the remake of the 2003 PS2 title, based on the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants. In Battle for Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob and his friends face the invasion of robots in their hometown of Bikini Bottom. The remake added several gameplay improvements and new mechanics and was well received by the critics and fans of the show alike.
Play as your favorite characters from the TV show
BfBB-R features three playable characters – SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy. Each of them has different unique abilities the player can use throughout the game. The gameplay mechanics involve exploring levels in search of various items, including Shiny Objects, Socks, and Golden Spatulas. Each item has a different use: Shiny Objects can be traded for passage to the next level and extra challenges, 10 Socks can be exchanged for a Golden Spatula, which unlocks more levels, including the final boss challenge.
The remake adds a multiplayer horde mode, in which the players fight against waves of Plankton’s robots.
Save Bikini Bottom from a robot invasion
Oh no, Mr. Krabs, Plankton is scheming something nefarious again! Inside his lab in Chum Bucket, the arch-nemesis of the Krusty Krab manager hatches his evil plan. With an army of cloned robots, he intends to destroy Mr. Krabs’ restaurant, thus eliminating his competitor. But when the robots rebel against their creator, it’s up to SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy to save Bikini Bottom from the impending robocalypse!

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated was met with a favorable reception. The reviewers pointed out the improvements in graphics and gameplay, such as the Horde Mode in multiplayer, as the game’s strongest points. The game was also well-received among the fans of the show, who praised the plot of the story and gameplay of Rehydrated, filled with a typical SpongeBob sense of humor.
