Dead Cells mixes elements from rougelike games and metroidvania games. In other words it is action-platformed inspired by such titles like Castlevania, where you're going to travel through constantly shifting castle. As in other rouglikes, death is permanent. When you die, you start your adventure from the very beginning. 

Don't worry though, it is part of the mechanics of the game. When you die, new parts of the castle are going to be opened for you.
