The apocalypse came early and humanity didn’t survive the conflict. Now demons rule among the ruins of human cities, and angels seek vengeance for the death of their leader. You play as War, the Horseman of legend, who is framed for starting this whole mess and has to clear his name and find the true guilty party.

It’s a great TPP action-adventure game with a structure that’s going to feel familiar to every long-time The Legend of Zelda fan, even some tools War discovers will feel familiar. There’s even an annoying spirit that acts as your guide. Darksiders also benefits from its unique and evocative designs of characters, locations and items, driven by Joe Madureira’s characteristic style.

In Ōkami you play as the goddess Amaterasu in a white wolf form. She was called to Earth to restore life drained by an unleashed demon Orochi. One of the greatest tools at Amaterasu’s disposal is a brush she can use to affect the environment, fight enemies, and solve puzzles. There are many techniques she can use, unlocked as the story progresses, and some of them can even be upgraded for enhanced effect.

Ōkami has a beautiful art style inspired by a classic Japanese art form, and as wonderful story about bringing life back to the world and fighting demons in the process. The new brush techniques serve as the tools and gadgets you can use to fight enemies and solve puzzles, and the game’s director Hideki Kamiya specifically pointed at The Legend of Zelda as a source of inspiration.

    Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is a lovely-looking game with presentation openly inspired by the 16-bit games, including The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. HLD has a clean, beautiful pixel-art style with great animations of both your character and everything around them. The game also features a lot of combat, mostly with the main character’s energy sword, but also ranged weapons with various properties.

Hyper Light Drifter’s story follows the eponymous Drifter who looks for a cure for an illness he’s suffering from. The world is full of forgotten technologies, ruins of lost civilisations, and all sort of danger such as the enemies and the environment itself. It’s a great, detailed, game with an immersive atmosphere and a story expressed without words, just through animations, designs, and environments.
